Aquaman Can Spell the Ruin of Batman Vs. Superman

When the title “Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice” came out it managed to stir a lot of emotion between comic fans. What a cool movie this is going to be and who is going to win? The Man of Steel director, Zack Snyder, has kept the main elements of the movie a secret, but it seems one secret couldn’t be kept and it might spell disaster for what should’ve been a brilliant movie. Apparently Aquaman will be making an appearance and he’s also out to get his hands on Superman. Why will this decision have such negative side-effects on Batman vs. Superman?

jason momoa as aquaman in Batman vs SupermanFirst of all, the confirmed “rumors” is that Jason Momoa will be portraying the king of Atlantis. One can only hope that these rumors aren’t true because Momoa’s looks aren’t going to be enough alongside Ben Affleck and Henry Cavill, both of whom have a great deal of respect and support. Momoa’s character on “Game of Thrones” inspired the idea to bring “Conan the Barbarian” back, which he tried to do. Instead he buried the legend of Conan so deep that even Arnold Schwarzenegger won’t touch the character again. In addition he tried to portray the nemesis of Sylvester Stallone in “Bullet to the Head”. Surprise surprise, the movie tanked as well. If Baywatch didn’t have so many sexy girls running around nobody would’ve even noticed Momoa. Just because he played a mindless barbarian on “Game of Thrones” doesn’t mean he has any acting skills. Every movie he seems to touch turns into a disaster.

Secondly, the debate whether Aquaman is even a hero worth mentioning is still on the table. For the few Aquaman fans out there, this is an apology for what is about to come, but it has to be said. There is a reason why no Aquaman films have been released yet, and the reason is Aquaman sucks! For some reason or another he is the most insignificant, uninteresting hero in the DC Comics range. Maybe it’s because his adversaries are just as boring as he is compared to The Joker and Lex. Who does Aquaman save exactly? The dolphins? However, the movie release date is set for May 2016, which means the rumors that Matt Damon can still get the part are very good. However, given the right actor Aquaman might not ruin “Batman vs. Superman“. If perhaps someone like Josh Hartnet, Tom Cruise or even Matt Damon takes over then people might see the underwater hero in a different light. Hopefully this is still possible, because Momoa is known for wrecking beloved characters.

Thirdly, Snyder might be attempting an overkill of heroes. Every time another a hero is added, less attention goes to the rest. This isn’t to say that a movie filled with DC superheroes can’t be a very entertaining film, but not when the title is Batman vs. Superman. Instead of just the two most famous heroes in comic history dishing it out, Aquaman breaks the balance. It is still a guessing game who Wonder Woman is going to support, but as it stands Superman will be facing off against Batman, Aquaman and Lex Luthor. Isn’t Batman supposed to be the underdog and how fair is this fight going to be? Aquaman might be boring, but his powers come a lot closer to those of Superman and with the help of Batman the red cape may never fly again.

All personal feelings aside, Aquaman is not a bad guy. For a handful of fans around the world he is capable of taking Batman and Superman on without any help. Regardless, the choice of Momoa for the role has to be one of the worst rumors yet. Is Snyder really going to take a chance on casting a “numb-nuts” in the same league as the rest? It has been proven that the right actor can make a very big difference in terms of public opinion. A good example of this is Robert Downey Jr. in Sherlock Holmes. How many people in the 21st century had any interest in this legendary character? Now nobody can wait for the third segment of what can be one of the best trilogies ever made. Hopefully Snyder will reveal the truth that Tom Cruise is the new face of Aquaman and not ruin a climax Batman and Superman fans have been longing for.

It’s only a matter of time before the rumors of Momoa are proved wrong and a much better actor is chosen for the part. Which one would you prefer?
