Online roulette has taken off so much in the last few years. With the advent ubiquitous broadband connections, live roulette and high quality computer generated roulette have blossomed.
With so many different types of roulette available, its hard to know where to play. Fortunately, roulette is such a simple game they are pretty much the same anywhere you play.
The obvious roulette game to avoid is American Roulette that has a house edge of 5.26%. The double zero should be avoided. If you are in a land casino in America, it probably can’t be avoided but online, the European Roulette tables are just a click away.
Other roulette games that should be avoided are the novelty ones based on roulette. For example, there is an online roulette game called Zodiac Roulette which is based on the 12 signs of the Zodiac. It makes a nice change for a while until you realise that the house edge is greatly increased. The same with mini roulette.
The game you should be playing at a minimum is the standard European roulette with the single zero. This has a house edge of 2.70%. You can beat this with French roulette which if it is real French roulette, has a house edge of just 1.35%. This is because, French roulette has a rule called La Partage which gives you half back on even money bets if the ball lands in green (0).
There are other roulette variations which give better odds that European roulette on average. Some of the bonus games are actually worth which as they don’t change the odds of the basic roulette but as they offer bonus features which in the long term reduce the house edge. Most casinos will display the long term RTP (return to player) of the game. If its anything higher than 97.3% then its better than European roulette.
Another thing to think about is reload bonuses. A reload bonus is rarer than a first time deposit bonus so you have to look around. These will have quite high turnover requirements but it will give you a better edge when playing roulette.
